The New National Theatre Tokyo (NNTT) will open its 2026-27 season with a new production of Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia.”

The co-production with Teatro Real Madrid and Opéra National de Lyon, directed by Laurent Pelly, will premiere on Oct. 2, 2026 and runs through Oct. 12. Christian Räth serves as revival director.

OperaWire’s review of the production in 2022-23 noted that it was “a funny, amusing and frenzy production trademark of stage director Laurent Pelly.”

Headlining the cast is soprano Claudia Muschio as Fiorilla. She is joined by Alejandro Baliñas Vieites as Selim and Paolo Bordogna as Geronio. Ruzil Gatin, Bruno Taddia, Yuka Tajima, and Yasuhiro Yamamoto round out the cast.

Alessandro Bonato conducts the Tokyo Philharmonic and New National Theatre Chorus in his NNTT debut.
