The Clarion Choir has announced that it will continue with its cherished annual tradition of performing Russian choral music on Dec. 31, 2021 and Jan. 1, 2022. The concerts will take place at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on the UES in NYC.
The choir will present Rachmaninoff’s “Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom.” Rachmaninoff composed the work in July, 1910 at his summer estate Ivanovka, following his American tour of 1909. The work premiered November 25, 1910 in Moscow.
The Clarion Choir has performed regularly in recent years as part of the MetLiveArts series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; including performances of large-scale Renaissance works by Victoria, Palestrina, Tavener, and Guerrero in the Medieval Sculpture Hall and the Met Cloisters.
The Choir has earned international renown for its performances and recordings of Russian sacred music. Its first three recordings have earned Editor’s Choice in Gramophone, the Choral & Song selection, and a nomination for the Choral Award in BBC Music Magazine, 5 Diapasons in France, and three GRAMMY® nominations for Best Choral Performance.
