Cincinnati Opera and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) will showcase a preview of two new operas-in-progress this fall as part of the “Opera Fusion: New Works” program.

On Oct. 11, 2025, at 2 p.m. local time, audiences will get a chance to check out Maria Thompson Corley and Diana Solomon-Glover’s “John Lewis: Good Trouble.” The opera explores the story of Congressman John Lewis and his fight for justice and equality. The opera is set to world premiere during the Cincinnati Opera’s 2027 Summer Festival.

Then on Nov. 8, 2025, also at 2 p.m. local time, the organizations will preview “Sleepers Awake,” a new opera by Gregory Spears. This opera adapts “Sleeping Beauty” in a “labyrinthine soundscape.” The work is an Opera Philadelphia commission and is set to premiere in April 2026.

Both events will take place at the Wilks Studio at Cincinnati Music Hall.
