
Choral Arts Society of Washington & Washington Performing Arts to Present ‘Living the Dream… Singing the Dream’
By Francisco SalazarThe Choral Arts Society of Washington and Washington Performing Arts are set to present the beloved 37th-annual choral tribute concert “Living the Dream…Singing the Dream.”
The concert will take place on Feb. 2 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall and will pay tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through performances by the Choral Arts Chorus under the direction of Marie Bucoy-Calavan, the Washington Performing Arts Men, Women, and Children of the Gospel Choirs under the direction of Theodore Thorpe, III and Michele Fowlin.
There will also be video and spoken words by Martin Luther King, Jr. with orator [David Anthony Johnson], and WUSA-9 “Get Up DC” anchor Allison Seymour as host.
The evening will also see the Choral Arts present its 2025 Humanitarian Award to Damon Hewitt, President and Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, for his extensive work in civil rights litigation and policy to better the lives of Black Americans for more than 20 years, with experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and public sectors.
The program will also include such selections as “call to action” including “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” “We Shall Be Changed,” “We Shall Overcome” – featuring David Anthony Johnson, “Hold On,” “Say Her Name,” and “If I Can Help Somebody.”
