Chautauqua Opera Company & Conservatory Unveil 2025 Season

Chautauqua Opera will showcase a production of “La Bohème,” directed by Keturah Stickann and conducted by Steven Osgood.
Performance Date: August 6, 2025
New Opera Workshops
The company is also showcasing its commitment to new opera, starting with a workshop for “Lincoln in the Bardo” by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek. Steven Osgood leads the showcase with Christine Goerke as the Reverend, a role written for her. The work will be workshopped for two weeks with 16 Young Artists and 18 singers from Chautauqua Opera Conservatory in partnership with the Metropolitan Opera. There will be a discussion with Mazzoli, Vavrek, and George Saunders, the author of the original novel on which the opera is based.
Performance Date: July 11, 2025
There will also be a workshop for “Ida by Lamplight,” a new work by Jeremy Gill and Jerry Dye, and “Sitcom,” an opera by Luke Styles and Alan McKendrick. The former is a 20-minute score and the latter is devised as a series of four 30-minute episodes. Chautauqua Opera will workshop 60 minutes from the score of “Sitcom” and the entirety of “Ida by Lamplight.”

Chautauqua Conservatory
Chautauqua Conservatory kicks things off with a production of “Le Nozze di Figaro,” directed by Nathan Troup.
Performance Dates: July 17 & 19, 2025
Then comes a production of “La Vida Breve,” conducted by Timothy Muffit and directed by Emma Griffin.
Performance Date: July 28, 2025
“Our upcoming season is a thrilling one indeed. Jonathan [Beyer] and I have heard some very exciting talents, and we greatly anticipate our inaugural season together. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the Chautauqua community as a whole and all of the many departments and disciplines and of course, working with our young artists,” said Denyce Graves-Montgomery, the Artistic Advisor of the Conservatory, per an official press statement.
“I am delighted to be working with the talented singers that will be attending Chautauqua this summer,” added Beyer, Director of the Conservatory. “Each one of these singers will bring such a unique voice to our Opera Conservatory productions and concerts. We are thrilled to present De Falla’s oneact Spanish opera La Vida Breve in the Amphitheater, in collaboration with the Music School Festival Orchestra and the School of Dance. We are honored to welcome well respected stage directors Kimille Howard, Nathan Troup, and Emma Griffin to helm the work on our stages this season.”
