By Francisco Salazar

This week two new DVDs will be available. One comes from the archives while the other comes from an exceptional production recorded last summer. Soprano Julia Bullock also previews her new album with the first single.

Here is a look.

Mireille

Gounod’s “Mireille” will get a reissue on Naxos from the Paris Opera. The production hails from the 2009–10 season and features Inva Mula and Charles Castronovo. Nicolas Joel directed the production which was conducted by Marc Minkowski.

Elektra

The Salzburg Festival’s much-anticipated new production of “Elektra” is set to be released by Unitel Edition. The production by Krzysztof Warlikowski was performed on the Grosses Festspielhaus with Franz Welser-Möst leading the Vienna Philharmonic. The cast was led by Aušrine Stundyte, which OperaWire praised stating she “created an incredibly expressive and assured vocal interpretation.” She was joined by Asmik Grigorian, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, Derek Welton, and Michael Laurenz.

Singles

Vince Mendoza dropped a single for his upcoming album “Freedom Over Everything.” The single for the album is entitled “To The Edge Of Longing” and features Julia Bullock who is accompanied by Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The full album comes out July 2 on BMG’s Modern Recordings Imprint.
