Chantal Braziel, James Harkness, Dr. Tiffany Jackson, and Joelle Lamarre Headline Third Episode of ‘Music as the Message’ Series

By Logan Martell

On April 25, audiences will be invited into the home of Adrienne Danrich for the third episode of the American Opera Project’s virtual series “Music as the Message,” titled “Our Stories ~ Our Voices.”

Hosted by Danrich, the event will feature a cast of prominent black artists such as Chantal Braziel, James Harkness, Dr. Tiffany Jackson, and Joelle Lamarre. This Zoom-based concert will also include the world premiere of a newly-commissioned song-cycle from Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec, with poetry by Danrich.

The concert, presented through AOPTV and in association with Opera on Tap, will be free to watch, with donations being encouraged. Half of all proceeds from the concert will go to Gift-Passion-Purpose Project Inc., which provides scholarships, grant, and mentorships to musicians from underrepresented communities.

The “Music as the Message” series kicked off back in November and featured Chabrelle Williams, Jasmine Muhammad, Katie McGrath, Nicole Mitchell, Patrice P. Eaton, La’Shelle Allen, Bernard Holcomb, Eric McKeever, Paul An, and Scott Tomlinson as they presented poetry and songs in a wide range of styles including classical, jazz, R&B, and hymns.
