Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Extends David Finckel and Wu Han Through 2032

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has announced that co-artistic directors David Finckel and Wu Han will continue leading the organization through 2032.

The announcement was made Sunday night from the stage of a sold-out concert at Alice Tully Hall. Finckel and Wu Han have served as co-artistic directors since the 2004-2005 season, and their new five-year contract will run from 2027-2028 through 2031-2032.

Under their more than two decades of leadership, CMS has grown into what the organization describes as the largest international chamber music producing and presenting organization in the world. Annual contributed income has more than quadrupled since 2003, programming has expanded to more than 80 events per season, and performances outside New York have tripled, rising from 23 in 2003-2004 to 73 in 2025-26. The organization has also commissioned or co-commissioned 78 new works since their arrival.

The pair have also expanded CMS’s digital reach through partnerships with NPR, Medici TV, All Arts, Tencent Music, and Apple Music Classical. Among their community initiatives, Finckel and Wu Han launched the “Summer Evenings” series, offering all tickets at $20 with 100 free tickets per performance available by lottery. Their educational programs reached more than 16,000 people this season through the Diamonstein-Spielvogel free community concert series and New York City school programs.

“CMS’s commitment to our services for another term is a blessing but even more of a challenge,” said Finckel and Wu Han in a joint statement. “What CMS can do for chamber music goes far beyond presenting successful concerts. Our organization is in a position of leadership, and today, we are working not only for our musicians and concerts but for the health and vitality of chamber music everywhere.”
