The Central City Opera 2019 Festival is set to open its festival with “Madama Butterfly.”

The new production is set to be directed by up-and-coming director, Alison Mortiz, who previously directed the one-act performances of “Gallantry and Cabildo” during the Central City Opera 2017 Festival.

The production will star tenor Cody Austin, mezzo-soprano Annie Rosen, baritone Troy Cook, tenor Joseph Gaines, and soprano Raquel Gonzalez in the role of Cio-Cio San.

Performances are set to begin on July 6 and will run through August 4.

Central City Opera’s second main stage production for the 2019 Festival will be Benjamin Britten’s “Billy Budd,” which is set to make its Colorado premiere. The company will also present a double bill with Debussy’s “The Blessed Damozel” and Poulenc’s “Litanies to the Black Virgin.”
