The Salzburg Whitsun Festival has announced an additional concert “What Passion Cannot Music Raise” set for May 23, 2021 at 11 a.m. local time.

The showcase will be headlined by mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli and will include music by Handel, Porpora, Hasse, Telemann, and Vivaldi. Bartoli will perform arias from such works as “Amadigi di Gaula,” “Orlando Furioso,” “Rinaldo,” “Ode for St. Cecilia’s “Day,” Giulio Cesare,” “Ariodante,” and “Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno,” among others.

Bartoli will appear alongside conductor Gianluca Capuano and Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco.

The showcase will be presented in lieu of “Dixit Dominus,” which was originally scheduled but had to be canceled after Sir John Eliot Gardiner was forced into quarantine restrictions due to COVID-19.

Additionally, the festival also announced a film series entitled “Roma Amor” featuring films by Paolo Sorrentino (“La Grande Bellezza”), Pier Paolo Pasolini (“Accattone”), Roberto Rossellini (“Roma, Città Aperta”), and Federico Fellini (“La Dolce Vita” and “Fellini’s Roma”).
