Cecilia Bartoli has announced that she will not participate in the Teatro alla Scala’s production of “Giulio Cesare.”

She announced via social media that she was never scheduled to do the production. The mezzo-soprano stated, “Dear friends and fans of Cecilia Bartoli, Cecilia Bartoli has taken note of the fact that the Teatro alla Scala is indicating that she will sing the role of Cleopatra in the new production of ‘Giulio Cesare’ coming October/November. However, this is not the case. Cecilia Bartoli will not participate in said production! The Teatro alla Scala has been asked to correct accordingly.”

The new production by Robert Carsen is set to star Philippe Jaroussky, Christophe Dumaux, and Bejun Mehta. The production is set to open Oct. 18 and closes on Nov. 7, 2019.
