This week audiences will get a chance to hear the latest by legendary tenor Plácido Domingo and will be able to experience acclaimed productions from the Massimo and Teatro Real. Here is a look at the highlights of the week.
Volver
Plácido Domingo releases his latest album, adding another record to his now legendary discography. This time he collaborates with the world-renowned Spanish Guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas. The new album, entitled “Volver,” features Iberian and Latin America songs alongside three solo works for the guitar: the Spanish coplas, nostalgic fado, and Mexican bolero.
The album includes pieces such as Violeta Parras’s “Gracias a la vida,” which was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2013, as well as “Volver” by Alfredo Le Pera, and Carlos Gardel and Álvaro Carrillo’s immensely successful “Sabor a mí.” The new arrangements were prepared by twelve-time Grammy winner Rafa Sardina.
Macbeth
Verdi’s early masterpiece gets a new release from the Teatro Massimo from Naxos. The production by Emma Dante, which was produced in 2017, stars Anna Pirozzi and Roberto Frontali in the title roles. Gabriele Ferro conducts the production.
Death in Venice
Naxos of America will release the rarely performed Britten work from the Teatro Real. The production stars John Daszak and Leigh Melrose in the lead roles. Alejo Perez conducts the production by acclaimed director Willy Decker.
