UPDATED: Cathedral of St. John the Divine Announces 2021-22 Season

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York has announced its 11th season of Great Music in a Great Space.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal performances.

Choral Concert Series

The Cathedral Choir of St. John these Divine will join forces with Kent Tritle and soloists Susanna Phillips, Kirsten Sollek, Bernard Holcomb, and Joseph Beutel for a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. This showcase will include the world premiere of the famed symphony transcribed for organ; David Briggs performs at the organ.

Performance Date: Oct. 19, 2021

Kent Tritle and Michael Sheetz will conduct a performance of music by J.S. Bach, Johann Michael Bach, and Johann Christoph Bach featuring Music Sacra and Ensemble 1047. The concert will star Nola Richardson, Helen Karloski, and James Reese.

Performance Date: Oct. 26, 2021

Kent Tritle will lead a performance featuring the Musica Sacra Chorus and Orchestra as they take on music by Brahms, Jie, Pärt, and Kalabis. The concert stars Nicole Joy Mitchell and John Riesen.

Performance Date: March 22, 2022

The Cathedral Choir and Orchestra of St. John the Divine will take on music by Vivaldi, Alissa Firsova, Poulenc, and Garcia alongside soloists Nola Richardson, Tracy Cowart, Andrew Fuchs, and Joseph Beutel. Kent Tritle and Bryan Zaros conduct.

Performance Date: April 5, 2022

The company will close out the season with “Caleidoscópio! Unsung Voices from Portugal” featuring the 13th-century female-voiced “Cantigas de Amigo” as well as music by Isabella Duarte and Vicente Lusitano. Kenti Trittle, Nina Stern, and Raymond Nagem lead the Rose of the Compass & Parthenia and the Cathedral Choir of St. John the Divine.

Performance Date: May 23, 2022

Holiday Concerts

Kent Tritle and Bryan Zaros lead a holiday concert featuring music by Britten and Vivaldi as well as Christmas carols. The concert will star Halley Gilbert and Katie Geissinger.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10 & 11, 2021

Kent Tritle, Bryan Zaros, and Jie Yi will lead a performance of music by Bach, Händel, Hurd, and Thompson. Jamet Pittman stars with Harry Smith as the host.

Performance Dates: Dec. 31, 2021
