
Cast Change: Ricardo José Rivera to Replace Artur Ruciński in ‘I Puritani’ HD at the Met Opera
By Francisco SalazarThe Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its Jan. 10 performance of “I Puritani.”
The company said that Artur Ruciński has withdrawn from the performance due to a cold and will be replaced by Ricardo José Rivera.
The Polish baritone also took to social media and said, “My dear friends, I have very sad news. Unfortunately, due to a severe cold I am forced to withdraw from today’s performance of ‘I Puritani’ at the Met Opera and Live in HD. Wishing all my colleagues in bocca al lupo for today’s show, as well Ricardo J. Rivera, who is replacing me!”
Rivera is a Puerto Rican baritone who was a three-year Ryan Opera Center Ensemble member at the Lyric opera of Chicago. He recently made his Met debut in “Arabella” and OperaWire said, he “showcased a booming baritone as Count Dominik.” He has also performed with the Teatro Nuovo, Florida Grand Opera, Opera San José, Sarasota Opera, and Washington Concert Opera.
Rivera joins a cast that includes Lisette Oropesa, Christian Van Horn, and Lawrence Brownlee. Marco Armiliato conducts the HD performance in Charles Edwards production.
