Cast Change: Ekaterina Gubanova Joins Teatro Alla Scala’s Performances of Verdi’s Requiem
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro alla Scala has announced that Ekaterina Gubanova will sing in the Verdi Requiem on October 28 and 30, 2026.
The mezzo-soprano will replace the originally announced Elīna Garanča.
In a statement via social media, the mezzo said, “Very happy to return to Teatro alla Scala for 2 exceptional concerts of Verdi Requiem in October 2026. With a magnificent cast: Anna Netrebko, Fabio Sartori and Michele Pertusi under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Chailly. It is a special honor to sing Verdi at teh Teatro alla Scala.”
Gubanova is known for her performances of Verdi and Wagner roles. She performs at the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro San Carlo, Wiener Staatsoper, Paris Opera, and Bayerische Staatsoper.
She is set to join a cast that includes Anna Netrebko, Fabio Sartori, and Michele Pertusi. Riccardo Chailly conducts the performances.
