
Cast Change: Christopher Maltman Steps into Paris Opera’s ‘Die Walküre’
By Francisco SalazarThe Opéra de Paris has announced a cast change for its production of “Die Walküre.”
The company said that Iain Paterson, who is ill, has cancelled the dress rehearsal, preview, and premiere of “Die Walküre.” As a result, the role of Wotan will be performed by Christopher Maltman on 8 and 11 November 2025.”
Maltman is a well-known singer who has performed the role at the Teatro San Carlo and the Royal Ballet and Opera. He performed regularly at the Royal Opera House, the Salzburg Festival, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Metropolitan Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, and the Teatro alla Scala. He is associated with Mozart and his interpretation of “Don Giovanni.”
He is set to join a cast that includes Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Günther Groissböck, Elza van den Heever, Tamara Wilson, and Ève-Maud Hubeaux. Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the production by Calixto Bieito.
