Cast Change: Anna Netrebko Cancels ‘Il Trovatore’ at the Teatro Real

By Francisco Salazar

Anna Netrebko has canceled her four performances of “Il Trovatore” at the Teatro Real de Madrid.

In a message, the company said, “Following this Tuesday’s recital at the Teatro Real, Anna Netrebko was unwell due to severe physical exhaustion and vocal fatigue, aggravated by the ongoing extreme weather conditions, as reported by her agent. After examining her, the doctor has issued a medical certificate that orders full vocal and physical rest for the next few weeks, meaning she has been forced to withdraw from her upcoming performances of ‘Il Trovatore.’ Anna Netrebko sincerely regrets disappointing her colleagues and the audiences and asks for everyone’s understanding.”

The company added, “the soprano is looking forward to returning to the Teatro Real in November to participate in ‘Bluebeard’s Castle’ by Béla Bartók, and in March 2027 in ‘La Gioconda’ by Amilcare Ponchielli.”

As a result, Eleonora Buratto will sing the role of Leonora on July 6, 9, 13 and 16.

Buratto posted on social media and added, “After making my role debut as Leonora in Verdi’s ‘Il Trovatore’ earlier this season, I am happy to announce that I will be performing the role again this month in Madrid! I hope you can join us!”

Buratto joins a cast that includes Yusif Eyvazov, Clémentine Margaine, George Petean, and Marko Mimica. Nicola Luisotti conducts the production by Francisco Negrín.
