Carolyn Sampson, Karen Cargill, Jennifer France, Roderick Williams, Mary Bevan Headline Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s 2023-24 Season

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra has announced its 2023-24 season. With the announcement, the company also revealed that it had extended the contract of Maxim Emelyaychev, it’s Principal Conductor, through 2028.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on vocal performances.

First up is Bach’s “Mass in B minor.” Richard Egarr conducts such soloists as Rowan Pierce, Mary Bevan, Helen Charleston, James Gilchrist, and Roderick Williams.

Performance Dates: Oct. 12 & 13, 2023

Gregory Batsleer will conduct Schubert’s Mass No. 5 in A flat with soloists Idunnu Münch, Thomas Walker, and Ashley Riches. The program also features music by Mendelssohn, Bach, and Schumann.

Performance Dates: Nov. 30 & Dec. 1, 2023

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus will perform music by Poulenc, Capperauld, Eric Whitacre, June Collin, Gustav Holst, Cecilia McDowall, Peter Warlock, Giles Swayne, and Sir John Taverner.

Performance Dates: Dec. 19 & 20, 2023

Soprano Jennifer France headlines a New Year’s concert, performing music by Dvorák, Struss, Lehár, Sieczynski, and Suppé.

Performance Dates: Jan. 1 – 5, 2024

Soprano Carolyn Sampson performs music by Ravel and Berlioz. The program, which will be conducted by François Leleux, will also feature music by Mozart.

Performance Dates: Jan. 31 – Feb. 2, 2024

Soprano Ruby Hughes stars in a program of music by Tüür, Clyne, Grime, and Rautavaara. Pekka Kuusisto conducts.

Performance Dates: March 13 -15, 2024

Mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill performs in a concert featuring music by Berlioz, Macmillan, and Maxwell Davies. Emelyanychev conducts.

Performance Dates: March 21 & 22, 2024

Soprano Emma Posman stars in a program of music by Haydn, Woolrich, Mozart, Adès, Weir, and Beethoven. Tom Adès conducts.

Performance Dates: April 11 & 12, 2024

The season comes to a close with Mendelssohn’s “Elijah.” Emelyanychev conducts such soloists as Carolyn Sampson, Anna Stéphany, Andrew Staples, and Roderick Williams.

Performance Dates: May 9 & 10, 2024
