Carnegie Hall Announces Conductor Change for Orchestra of St. Luke’s All-Brahms Concert

By David Salazar

Carnegie Hall has announced a conductor change for the upcoming performance by the Orchestra of St. Luke’s on May 9, 2024.

The ensemble, which will perform an All-Brahms concert on May 9, will now be conducted by Xian Zhang, who replaces Bernard Labadie, who withdrew due to illness.

Zhang is no stranger to the ensemble, having made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s back in 2002 as part of th Maazel-Vilar Conductor Competition, which she won. She then led the ensemble in 2008 at Carnegie Hall in a program featuring a New York premiere by Thomas Adès.

Zhang is currently leading a production of “Madama Butterfly” at the Metropolitan Opera.

The program includes Brahms’ “Begräbnisgesang” and “Ein deutsches Requiem” with Erin Morley and Andrè Schuen as the soloists.
