Carlos Álvarez & Teatro Cervantes Team Up for ‘Ópera Estudio’

By David Salazar

Baritone Carlos Álvarez has teamed up with the Teatro Cervantes de Málaga to create the Ópera Estudio for the youth throughout the city.

The initiative will kick off with a presentation of “El gitano por amor,” which will allow artists and singers up to age 35 years of age to participate. Prospective candidates can apply up to Nov. 30 via the company’s official website with finalists announced in summer of 2024.

The goal is to “perfect the young musical talents in the context of a production, giving them the chance to learn and earn experience in a professional environment through the development of local, national, and international repertory alongside major professionals who will serve as mentors.”

In addition to Álvarez, the organization has brought on conductor Carlos Aragón, director Emilio Sagi, and actor Pedro Mari Sánchez, to work on the venture.
