By David Salazar

Canto Latino Cyberchallenge 2021 has announced the winners of this year’s competition.

The winner for Best Performance went to Asael Cuesta, while Best Singer was awarded to Elena Villalón. Sishel Claverie took home Best Video, and Jean Bernard Cerin won Best Performance of a Folk Song. In the Best Performance Art Song category, Ricardo López was the winner. Martín Samuel won for Best Pianist, while Karen Sosa took home Casa de la Música Debut Recital Prize and Best Performance Ecuadorian Song.

Karen Sosa took home the coveted Best Audience prize with over 2,800 likes on YouTube (the audience prize was decided by audience likes on YouTube videos between March 7-20, 2021). Rafael Reyes was originally announced as the Honorable mention for the award with 2,300 likes during the original ceremony on Sunday, March 21. However, on Friday, March 26, Canto Latino Cyberchallenge 2021 declared him a joint-winner noting “after further consideration and data analysis Canto Latino is announcing that both Rafael Reyes and Karen Sosa are the audience favorite winners.” The organization cited time zone differences in the voting process as accounting for the change.

Winners of each category will be awarded $500 USD.

Each category also featured an honorable mention prize for the runner-up. Eugenia Forteza was the runner-up in the Best Video category with Pedro Arroyo drawing second place for the Best Performance of a Folk Song category. Other honorable mentions went to Ángela Valencia for Best Performance Ecuadorian Song, Alejandra Martínez for Best Singer, Irina Khruleva for Best Performance Art Song, Ángela Valencia for Best Performance Ecuadorian Song, Damilé Cruz for Best Pianist, and Christopher Reames for Best Performance.
