Canadian Opera Company Partners with Sistema Toronto To Expand Digital Children’s Series

By Logan Martell

The Canadian Opera Company’s digital platform for kids, Opera Makers, is set to bring interactive and educational programming to even more children in the region of Toronto.

The program introduces the art form to children through activities that explore aspects such as storytelling, composition, performance, and design.

The programming is created by COC teaching artists working with local partners. Among these partners is Sistema Toronto, an organization that plays a leading role in enriching children through musical and academic opportunities to children in vulnerable communities.

These weekly, online workshops will begin on September 22, 2020, and the original, eight-week series “Opera Makers: Activities for Young Creatives,” is available at the company’s website.

“With this next phase of our Opera Makers programming, we’re building on the success of our original video series to introduce even more young people to every aspect of opera in fun and imaginative ways,” Christie Darville, COC Deputy General Director and Executive Director, Philanthropy & Audiences, said in a press release. “We’re particularly excited to launch this program through our new partnership with Sistema Toronto, whose inspiring work has enriched young lives around the world through music education.”
