Canadian Opera Company Music Director & Chorus Master Extend Contracts
By Francisco SalazarThe Canadian Opera Company has announced that Music Director Johannes Debus and Chorus Master Sandra Host have renewed their contracts through the 2028-29 season.
The company said, “Our audiences know that an opera with Johannes at the podium and our chorus led by Sandra will always be an exceptional musical experience. Many congratulations, Johannes and Sandra! We can’t wait to see what incredible performances await.”
Debus is a German-born conductor who was appointed Music Director of the Canadian Opera Company in 2009 and throughout his tenure, he has conducted such works as “Götterdämmerung,” “Eugene Onegin,” “Otello,” “Salome,” and the COC world premiere of “Hadrian.” During the pandemic, his work for digital included the hosting of Solo Spotlights.
Horst is a Canadian pianist, vocal coach, and choral conductor who graduated with honors from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. She later earned a Master of Music in Accompaniment from New England Conservatory and earned a diploma in accompaniment from the professional studies program at the Juilliard School.
