Canadian Opera Company Announces Solo Spotlight

The Candian Opera Company has announced that the COC Orchestra will take center stage in a new video series, Solo Spotlights with the COC Orchestra.

The new series will be hosted by Music Director Johannes Debus and each episode will feature the conductor in conversation with a member of the orchestra as they share candid anecdotes and special musical demonstrations.

The series will open on Dec. 15 and run through Jan. 26, 2021, with new episodes released every other week.

The first episode will showcase COC Concertmaster Marie Bérard as she showcases her favorite violin solo from Act three of Verdi’s tragic love story, “La Traviata.”

COC Orchestra Principal Clarinetist Dominic Desautels performs the opening clarinet melody from “E lucevan le stelle” from “Tosca.”

COC Orchestra flutist Shelley Brown showcases excerpts from “Peter Grimes.”

COC Orchestra Principal Horn player Scott Wevers performs a solo rendition of “Je dis que rien ne m’épouvante,” Micaëla’s aria from “Carmen.”
