Canadian Opera Company Announces Cast Change for ‘Nabucco’

By Francisco Salazar

The Canadian Opera Company has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “Nabucco.”

The company said, “Regretfully, soprano Tamara Wilson has been recently diagnosed with pneumonia and will need to withdraw from her role as Abigaille in the Canadian Opera Company’s upcoming production of ‘Nabucco.’ The COC wishes Tamara all the very best for a full recovery and gratefully welcomes Mary Elizabeth Williams to the cast for the duration of the performance run.”

American soprano Williams will make a COC debut in the role of Nabucco’s adopted daughter, Abigaille. She has gained recognition for her interpretation with The Independent stating, “[she] stole the show as Abigaille, inhabiting with relish every clear, sensuous note.” Throughout her career, she has performed at the Paris Opera and Seattle Opera.

The soprano joins a cast that includes Rihab Chaieb, Matthew Cairns, Roland Wood, and Simon Lim. Paolo Carignani conducts the production by Katherine M. Carter.

“Nabuco” opens on Oct. 4 and runs through Oct. 25, 2024.
