The Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM) has announced the ratification of a new successor General Production Agreement (GPA) with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

The agreement, endorsed by eligible voting members, secures wage increases, pension enhancements, and updated contract terms designed to reflect today’s evolving production landscape.

Key updates include revised definitions and protections for modern media use, recognition of branding music, modernized licensing provisions, and safeguards regarding generative artificial intelligence. The contract also introduces improvements to working conditions, including sustainability commitments in production practices.

“This agreement, with CBC, the national broadcaster of Canada, serves professional musicians across the country, working in both English and French Services,” said Allistair Elliott, AFM/CFM Vice-President from Canada and Director of Canadian Affairs, per an official press release. “By securing fair wage increases including pension, and modernized protections, we’ve ensured that musicians’ contributions are both recognized and respected. At a time when the arts and media industries continue to evolve, these gains represent stability and sustainability for professional musicians across the country.”
