Camilla Nylund to Receive Prestigious Award

By Francisco Salazar

Camila Nylund is set to receive the “Lotte Lehmann-Gedächtnisring.”

The award, which is one of the most prestigious in the world, will be presented to the famed soprano following a performance of Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” on Nov. 9, 2022.

In a statement, Bogdan Roščić, director of the Wiener Staatsoper, “I am delighted that this important and traditional honor will take place on the open stage this season. But I am even happier that the Soloists’ Association has chosen an artist who is as central to our house as Kammersängerin Camilla Nylund. She is a worthy successor to the legendary previous holders of the Lotte-Lehmann-Ring.”

Meanwhile, Hans Peter Kammerer, President of the Association of Soloists of the Wiener Staatsoper, added, “Through the consistent, sensitive development of her genuinely lyrical voice, KS Camilla Nylund has impressively conquered the dramatic field without losing the great qualities of her bright, soft intonation. That is outstanding and unmistakable!”

Nylund is one of the most in-demand opera singers of her generation and has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Berlin State Opera, Finnish National Opera,  Zürich Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro San Carlo, and Teatro alla Scala.
