
Cameron Arens Named Opera & Casting Director at Theater Basel

Arens will begin his tenure during the 2026-7 season. he will succeed Jean Denes, who will be moving to the Grand Théâtre de Genève following six years with the company.
In his new positions Arens will work with the administrative management of the opera department, casting, and in close collaboration with the artistic leadership and ensembles such as the orchestra and chorus.
In a statement Arens said, “I am very pleased with the trust that the management team of Theater Basel has placed in me and with the opportunity to become part of this inspiring community of artists and staff. I look forward to our collaboration.”
In a statement Artistic Director Benedikt von Peter added, “We congratulate Jean Denes on his wonderful new position at the Geneva Opera. Jean has shaped our opera program in a very special way. With his keen eye for casting, he has contributed significantly to the success and spirit of our opera productions. We thank him for his expertise and professionalism, which he brought to Theater Basel.”
He continued, “We are delighted that we have been able to attract Cameron Arens, an internationally exceptionally well-connected opera and cultural manager, to Theater Basel.”
Arens has been Artistic Operations Director and Casting Manager at leading opera houses and festivals including the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Opéra National de Paris, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
