
Theater Basel Extends Benedikt von Peter’s Contract
By Francisco SalazarBenedikt von Peter has extended his contract as Intendant of Theater Basel until the end of July 2030.
The board of directors of the Theater Basel Cooperative announced the news and wrote that “Von Peter led the three-division company with exceptional commitment through times of great challenges and shaped it decisively. His work not only kept the artistic quality at a high level, but also strengthened the social relevance and accessibility of the house.”
Michael Willi, President of the Theater Cooperative’s Board of Directors, added, “With the contract extension, we want to give Benedikt von Peter and his team the necessary planning security to achieve the ambitious goals and to further develop the Theater Basel for the future.”
Von Peter began his tenure with the company during the 2020-21 season. Throughout his career, he has directed productions at theaters and opera houses in Germany and Switzerland, including the Theater Basel, Oper Frankfurt, Staatstheater Hannover, Komische, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. From 2016 to 2021, Von Peter was the artistic director of the Luzerner Theater.
