Calgary Opera to Present ‘The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs’

By Francisco Salazar

The Calgary Opera is set to present the Canadian premiere of “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs.”

The opera, set to be performed on Feb. 4, 8, and 10 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, was created by Mason Bates and Mark Campbell.

In a statement, Campbell said, “An opera about the need for human connection seems especially resonant after the periods of isolation we experienced during the pandemic. The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs has always been very popular with audiences, but I think the story now affects them more profoundly because of what we’ve all been through.” Bates adds, “The message of this opera is that technology is no replacement for true human connection.”

The opera is set to star  Brett Polegato as “Steve Jobs,” John Tessier as “Steve Wozniak,” Wei Wu as “Kōbun Chino Otogawa,” Sun-Ly Pierce as “Laurene Powell,” and Melody Courage as “Chrisann Brennan.” Michael Christie, who conducted the world premiere in 2017, will be conducting the Calgary Opera Orchestra. Original Stage Direction is by the General and Artistic Director of Atlanta Opera, Tomer Zvulun.

The Calgary Opera production will be staged by Director, Rebecca Herman, who was the Associate Director for the previous productions of the opera.
