Butler School of Music Undergraduate Ensemble to Present Bortniansky’s ‘Le Faucon’

By Afton Wooten

The Butler School of Music Undergraduate Ensemble is set to give a concert performance of Dmitry Bortniansky and Franz-Hermann Lafermière’s “Le Faucon.”

The 18th century opera is a fusion between Italian opera seria and French opéra comique. The plot is taken from one of the stories in Boccaccio’s “Decameron,” involving two pairs of lovers. It will be sung in the original French. Mikhail Smigelski serves as music director and Douglas Kinney Frost conducts the instrumental ensemble.

Currently there are no records showing that “Le Faucon” has been performed in the US.

“Le Facuon” takes place on May 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jessen Auditorium at UT Austin.
