
Buddha’s Light International Association to Showcase Peking Opera in Austin
By Francisco SalazarBuddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) has announced two upcoming days showcasing Peking Opera, a form of Chinese opera, in Austin at The Long Center:
The first performance will be “Three Excerpts of Peking Opera,” which will be a series of three performances on July 26, 7:30 p.m.
The second work will be “Monkey King Fights the Skeleton Demon,” taking place on July 27, 2:30 p.m.
Presented by Taipei Li-Yuan and hosted by the Xiang Yun Temple, Austin Chinese American Network, and Texas CSA, this set of performances will bring Austin the spectacle of classic Chinese Peking Opera, which mixes regional styles with Beijing flair.
In a statement, Xiang Yun Temple Venerable JueJi said, “This is more than a performance — it is a living legacy of Chinese civilization, now shared with Austin. As Peking Opera graces the stage, let art become the bridge that unites cultures and brings the world closer together.”
