Bryony Dwyer, Martina Welschenbach, Boaz Daniel & Rafael Fingerlos Lead Stadttheater Klagenfurt’s 2021-22 Season

The Stadttheater Klagenfurt has announced its 2021-22 season. For the purposes of this article we will focus on the vocal works only.

Operas

Wagner‘s “Die Walküre” opens the season. The opera stars Markus Marquardt as Wotan, Martina Welschenbach as Sieglinde, Magdalena Anna Hofmann in the role of Brünnhilde, and Julian Hubbard as Siegmund.

The cast also includes Ksenia Vyaznikova, Rafal Pawnuk, Meredith Bloomfield, Franziska Giesemann, Sarah Gilford, Veronika Dünser, Ivana Djokovic, Larissa Gabshiy, and Olena Pruscha. Nicholas Milton conducts the production by Aron Stiehl.

Performance dates: Sep. 16 – Oct. 21, 2021

Mozart‘s “Le Nozze di Figaro” spotlights Germán Alcántara as Count Almaviva, Matilda Sterby as Countess Almaviva, Sarah Gilford as Susanna, and Ogulcan Yilmaz in the title role.

The cast will be rounded out by Dara Savinova, Christa Ratzenböck, Benjamin Bloomfield, Lisa-Maria Lebitschnig, Thomas Tischler, and Josef Pepper. Nicholas Milton conducts the production by Brigitte Fassbaender.

Performance dates: Nov. 4, 2021 – Jan. 4, 2022

Robert Persché’s musical “The Jungle” showcases Melanie Böhm, Ferdinand Kopeinig, Edward Hall, Denis Lakey, Lukas Benjamin Engel, Bernadette Fröhlich, Heike Kretschmer, and Michael Del Coco. Michael Spassov conducts the production by Igor Pison.

Performance dates: Nov. 13, 2021 – Jan. 20, 2022

Carl Zeller’s operetta “Der Vogelhändler” features Joo-Anne Bitter, Christa Ratzenböck, Paul Schweinester, Marian Pop, Martin Mairinger, Nika Gorič, Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz, Thomas Tischler, Josef Pepper, and Christoph Levermann. Günter Wallner conducts the production by Aron Stiehl.

Performance dates: Dec. 9, 2021 – Jan. 28, 2022

Wolfgang Rihm’s chamber opera “Jakob Lenz” stars Boris Grappe, Steven Scheschareg, Sarah Gilford, and Marian Pop. Mitsugu Hoshino conducts the production by Sophie Springer.

Performance dates: Feb. 3 – March 8, 2022

Alessandro Scotto di Luzio performs il Duca Di Mantua, Sarah Gilford portrays Gilda, and Boaz Daniel stars in the title role of Verdi‘s “Rigoletto.”

The cast also includes Karl Huml, Antoin Herrera, Veronika Dünser, Gregor Einspieler-Springer, Taras Kuzmych, Tetjana Prybura, and Josef Pepper. Nicholas Milton conducts the production by Robert Schuster.

Performance dates: March 17 – May 27, 2022

Irving Berlin’s musical “Annie Get Your Gun” showcases the Chor des Stadttheaters Klagenfurt. Michael Spassov conducts the production by Pascale-Sabine Chevroton.

Performance dates: May 5 – June 18, 2022

Concerts

Stadttheater unterwegs” spotlights Chor des Stadttheaters Klagenfurt alongside conductor Günter Wallner.

Performance dates: Sep. 3, 2021 – June 1, 2022

Soloists and chorus of the Stadttheaters Klagenfurt perform Bach’s “Weihnachtsoratoriums” and works by Britten and Saint-Saëns. Günter Wallner conducts.

Performance dates: Dec. 17 – 20, 2021

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s oratorio “Elias” stars Bryony Dwyer, Veronika Dünser, Alessandro Fisher, and Rafael Fingerlos alongside conductor Harish Shankar.
