Bryn Terfel has joined Classic FM for a new four part series.

The Welsh bass-baritone will host “Opera Villains with Bryn Terfel,” drawing inspiration from his own portrayals of roles from Don Giovanni to Sweeney Todd. In the series he will explore what makes these villains tick, and whether they are truly evil or simply flawed.

In a statement Terfel said, “You know, they say the devil always gets the best lines — and in opera, that really is the case! When I sing roles like Scarpia or Mephisto, I try to find that little grain of truth in them, the human side beneath all the wickedness.”

The new series will begin airing on Jan. 9, 2026.

Terfel is well known for his portrayals of such roles as Scarpia, Wotan, Sweeney Todd, Mephistopheles, The Dutchman, Falstaff, and Boris Godunov, among others.
