Bryan Hymel has canceled his upcoming performances of Meyerbeer’s “Les Huguenots.”

The Opéra National de Paris announced that due to illness, Bryan Hymel would be replaced by Yosep Kang in the role of Raoul de Nangis. The announcement comes a week before the opening of the highly anticipated production, which is slated to be one of the season’s highlights and also comes a few weeks after Diana Damrau canceled the production due to illness.

Kang recently sang a run of “Don Carlo” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as “La Traviata” at Opera Australia.” He returns this season to Opera Australia and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He also takes on a new production of “La Bohème” at Vancouver Opera.

Hymel returns to the stage for “I Vespri Siccilianni” at the Bayerische Staatsoper in November and also sing “La Bohème” at the Wiener Staatsoper. He is slated to return to Paris for “Les Troyens” later this season.

“Les Huguenots” opens on Sept. 25, 2018 and also stars Ermonela Jaho and Lisette Oropesa.
