The Chorégies d’Orange has appointed Bruno Messina as its director.

The decision was unanimous and marks a new stage in the development of the festival and a major benchmark for opera in France and Europe.

Messina will succeed Jean-Louis Grinda, who directed the Chorégies d’Orange for 10 years.

In his new position, Messina will be tasked with continuing to enhance the Chorégies’ international reach, consolidating its economic model, and strengthening its appeal to all audiences. He will also lead the institution’s artistic and cultural project, building upon the excellence that has defined the festival for over 150 years.

In a statement Richard Galy, President of SPL Chorégies d’Orange said, “We are delighted to welcome Bruno Messina as the new director of the Chorégies. His background, the strength of his management experience, his knowledge of artistic and cultural institutions, and his ability to unite artists, partners, and audiences are major assets for the continued development of the Chorégies. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I warmly thank Jean-Louis Grinda for his commitment throughout his tenure.”

Messian was the general and artistic director of the Berlioz Festival in La Côte-Saint-André, and has held artistic director positions abroad, notably for the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music in Morocco.
