Azrieli Music, Arts & Culture Centre Presents 2026 Azrieli Music Prizes Gala Concert
By Afton MarkayThe Azrieli Music, Arts and Culture Centre is set to present the biennial Azrieli Music Prizes (AMP) Gala Concert featuring four premiere works by the 2026 Azrieli Music Prizes Laureates.
Each AMP competition cycle focuses on a specific instrumentation category. In 2026, the works have been written for choir with symphonic orchestra and soloists. New works by Hana Ajiashvili (Azrieli Prize for Jewish Music), Nicholas Denton Protsack (Azrieli Commission for Canadian Music), Adrian Mocanu (Azrieli Commission for International Music), and Dalit Hadass Warshaw (Azrieli Commission for Jewish Music), will be performed by soloists sopranos Hila Baggio and Hila Plitmann, baritone Noam Heinz, Les Voix humaines, and cellist Ariel Barnes. They are joined by the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and OSM Chorus led by Asher Fisch.
In addition to the Montréal premiere, Laureates receive a cash award of CAD 50,000, two subsequent international performances, and a commercial studio recording of their prize-winning work.
“It is deeply moving to see the Azrieli Music Prizes come full circle in the twelve years since I established them. Our very first AMP Gala Concert in 2016 showcased two compositions for orchestra, choir and soloists, and we are returning to that exact instrumentation ten years later,” said AMP founder Sharon Azrieli, C.Q., D.Mus. “I look forward to celebrating with our fantastic 2026 Laureates as we launch their works into the repertoire, and I have no doubt that their unique compositional voices will bring them much future success.”
The Oct. 15 concert will take place at the Maison symphonique de Montréal and will be livestreamed for free on Medici.tv, Amadeus.tv, The Violin Channel, and the Azrieli Music Prizes YouTube channel. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
