Brooklyn Art Society to Open 2024-25 Season with ‘Histories: Das Wort’

Brooklyn Art Song Society is set to open its 2024-25 season on Oct. 6 with Histories I: Das Wort.

The evening will present three 19th-century masterpieces inspired by the Bible, exploring themes of love, sin, and redemption through the works of Johannes Brahms, Antonin Dvořák, and Hugo Wolf.

The works performed include Brahms’ “4 Ernste Gesänge,” Op. 121, Dvořák’s “Biblické písně,” Op. 99, and Wolf’s “Sacred Songs” from the “Spanisches Liederbuch.”

Soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbon, mezzo-soprano Anna Laurenzo, and baritones Sidney Outlaw, and Brian James Myer will be the soloists alongside pianists Michael Brofman, Warren Jones, and Ryan McCullough.

There will a pre-concert lecture at 4:30 p.m. by Fordham University’s Aaron Hollander.
