Brooklyn Art Song Society Unveils 2024-25 Season

Brooklyn Art Song Society has revealed its 2024-25 season.

Histories

The first concert in the “Histories” series is “Das Wort,” which features music by Brahms, Dvorak, and Wolf. Soloists include Lucy Fitz Gibbon, Anna Laurenzo, Sidney Outlaw, and Brian James Myer. Pianists featured are Michael Brofman, Warren Jones, and Ryan McCullough.

Performance Date: Oct. 6, 2024

“Medieval” showcases the music of Barber, Libby Larsen, Gilda Lyons, and a world premiere Guillaume de Machaut via an arrangement by David Ludwig. Vocal artists on the program include Elisabeth Marshall, Sara Lemesh, Jennifer Zetlan, and Erin Wagner. They are accompanied by Michael Brofman and Nana Shi.

Performance Date: Nov. 3, 2024

“Renaissance” shines the spotlight on works by Britten, Gesualdo, Monteverdi, and Wolf with Dominic Armstrong and Brian Mextorf as the soloists. Also on the program are the Variant Six vocal ensemble and pianist Michael Brofman.

Performance Date: Dec. 1, 2024

Dowland and Purcell are the focus of “Lachrimae.” Nola Richardson, Kate Maroney, Andrew Fuchs, and Jonathan Woody are the vocal soloists. Spencer Myer performs at the piano and Charles Weaver plays the lute.

Performance Date: Jan. 5, 2025

Music by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven comprises “The Viennese School.” Vocalists Ashley Emerson, Maggie Finnegan, Katherine Lerner, and Michael Kelly interpret their works with pianists Mike Brofman, Brent Funderburk, and Joel Harder.

Performance Date: Feb. 2, 2025

Kristina Bachrach, Sarah Nelson Craft, Dylan Morrongiello, and Joshua Conyers interpret the music of Schubert and Wofl in “Goethe.” Dimitri Dover and Miori Sugiyama accompany.

Performance Date: March 2, 2025

New Voices Festival 2025: Lost / Found

The first program of the festival features works by Jasmine Barnes, Eve Beglarian, Cecilia Livngston, Shawn E. Okpebholo, Brandon Spencer, and Scott Wheeler. Devony Smith, Martin Bakari, and Greg Feldman perform alongside Michael Brofman and Danny Zelibor.

Performance Date: April 6, 2025

The second program in the festival showcases music by Juhi Bansal, Herschel Garfein, Tom Cipullo, Evan Fein, Will Liverman, and Carlos Simon with vocal soloists including Amy Owens, Laura Strickling, and Brandon Bell. Accompanists are Michael Brofman and Noy Schreier with cellist Carrie Stute as a featured artist.

Performance Date: May 4, 2025

Closing out the festival and the season is a program showcasing the works of Katherine Balch, Fang Man, Tonia Ko, Samy Mousa, Andrew Staniland, and Kate Soper with Sarah Brailey, Charlotte Mundy, and Kristin Gornstein as the vocal interpreters. Jeremy Chen, Mila Henry, and Nathaniel LaNasa are the pianists on the program. Joining them is double bassist Doug Balliett.
