On June 10, 2021, Lyric Opera of Chicago will present “The New Classics: Songs from the New Golden Age of Musical Theater,” a virtual cabaret concert featuring company and Broadway artists.

Among the artists are Gavin Creel, Nikki Renee Daniels, Norm Lewis, Amanda Castro, Jenn Gambatese, Jo Lampert, and Heath Saunders. They will perform their selections remotely, with some portions of the concert being filmed in the space behind the Lyric Opera stage, where the stage of the Civic Theatre was built in 1929.

The concert will be led by Music Director David Chase, also serving as host and pianist. Members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra include violinist Robert Hanford, cellist Calum Cook, bassist Ian Hallas, clarinetist Susan Warner, and percussionist Eric Millstein.

The program will be comprised of selections from works such as “The King and I,” “Brigadoon,” “Les Miserables,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Wicked,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “The Secret Garden,” “Once on This Island,” “Side Show,” and more.

“The New Classics,” will premiere on LOC’s Facebook and YouTube pages, where it will be available to stream for free after release.
