Brick Presbyterian Church to Showcase John Stainer’s oratorio ‘The Crucifixion’

By David Salazar

The Brick Presbyterian Church will present John Stainer’s oratorio “The Crucifixion” as part of its 2024-25 Worship & Arts and Good Friday worship service.

The Brick Church began performing “The Crucifixion” in the early 1920s, and in 2024, it celebrated its 100th performance with baritone Malcolm Merriweather and tenor Jeffrey Taveras as soloists with the Chancel Choir. For 2025, the soloists include Sean Fallen and Nathaniel Sullivan, with Alistair Reid at the organ.

Stainer’s music explores the story of Jesus’ sacrifice and humanity’s redemption. It features solos, choruses, and even invites the entire congregation to engage in hymns.

The performance is set for April 18, 2025 at 12:15 p.m. local time.
