The Boston Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Earl Lee as its new assistant conductor for the next two seasons.

He is set to make his first appearance at the 2022 Tanglewood season followed by a series of concerts during the 2022-23 season.

In addition to leading his own performances, Lee will work alongside Boston Symphony Orchestra Music Director Andris Nelsons and other guest conductors in their preparations of the ensemble for the regular season and Tanglewood performances.

“I feel very lucky to become a part of such an exceptional musical ensemble as the BSO,” said Lee in an official press release. “I am honored and look forward to beginning work with the amazing Maestro Andris Nelsons and all the terrific musicians of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.”

Lee previously worked with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra where he held the position of associate conductor since September 2018. He was also resident conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and has appeared with such organizations as Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, New Japan Philharmonic, Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

Lee will accompany Anna Rakitina, who is also serving as assistant conductor with the organization until 2023.

Lee succeeds Yu-An Chang whose term as assistant conductor ended in 2020.
