Boosey & Hawkes Signs Publishing Agreement with Olga Neuwirth

By Logan Martell

Boosey & Hawkes has announced that it has signed a publishing agreement with composer Olga Neuwirth.

The agreement comes as a continuation of B&H’s representation of Neuwirth’s music from 2000 to 2009, with works such as her opera “Lost Highway,” and trumpet concerto “…miramondo multiplo.” Other works by the composer are represented by music publisher Ricordi.

Born in Graz and educated in Vienna, Neuwirth is one of the most successful composers of her generation, and has been commissioned for works by companies such as the Vienna State Opera, the Lucerne Festival, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Her interdisciplinary approach blends genres such as film, literature, visual art, natural science, and everyday culture.

“My work should always span every genre and cross boundaries and limits which were and are set by humans,” says Neuwirth. “So, from the beginning, I have asked political social questions to develop visions, as it seems that only in art can one still express visions and not merely reproduce old thoughts like dropped leaves. Therefore I’ve pursued a progressively clearer way from heteronomy to freedom, represented by an independent style that is hard to define as it is free from norms and rituals – an art-in-between.”
