
Bolshoi Theatre Cancels Final ‘Sadko’ Performance
By Francisco SalazarThe Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow has canceled its final performance of “Sadko” on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021.
The news comes a day after an actor for the company was killed in a freak accident during the Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 performance of the opera.
Moscow’s prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation surrounding the accident while the Tverskoy Inter-district Investigation Department is conducting a pre-investigation check at the scene.
The performer who was killed was identified as Yevgeny Kulesh, a 37-year old man who had been with the company since 2002 as part of a 50-person group of Bolshoi employees who serve as onstage extras.
The Bolshoi Theatre noted that after the accident the performance was immediately stopped and the audience was asked to leave the hall.
The company is expected to resume its season with a revival of “Tosca” starring Anna Netrebko and Placido Domingo on Oct. 12, 2021.
