Bilbao Opera Opens with ‘Don Pasquale’ Starring Simón Orfila

The Bilbao Opera is set to open its 2024-25 season with Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale.”

The opera, which will be performed from Oct. 19 to 28, 2024 at the Euskalduna Bilbao, returns to the company after being performed on four occasions. The opera was first shown in 1958 with Renata Scotto and Alfredo Kraus, and later in 1995 with Carlos Chausson and Manuel Lanza, and in 2017 with Chausson and Jessica Pratt.

This time, the opera will star Simón Orfila in the title role, María José Moreno as Norina, Francesco Demuro as Nemorino, and Damián del Castillo as Malatesta. The recognized actor Pedro Mari Sánchez will perform the role of the Notaro.

The Oct. 26 performance will be an Opera Berri function which will star Enric Martínez-Castignani, Sofía Esparza, and Juan Antonio Sanabria.

Sestro Quatrini will conduct the new production by Emiliano Suárez.
