Berlin State Opera Cancels a 2020-21 Production

The Berlin State Opera has announced changes to its upcoming 2020-21 season.

In a statement, the company said that the new production of “Khovanshchina,” which was scheduled to open on June 2020 will no longer take place; as a result the 2020-21 revival will also be canceled.

The June 2020 production was to be conducted by Vladimir Jurowski with a cast starring Mika Kares, Sergey Skorokhodov, John Daszak, Vladislav Sulimsky, Alexey Tikhomirov, Marina Prudenskaya, and Andrea Danková in a production by Claus Guth.

The 2020-21 revival of “Khovanshchina,” which was supposed to open on Oct. 4, 2020, was set to star Alexander Tsymbalyuk, Sergey Skorokhodov, Alexey Markov, Anna Samuil, and Marina Prudenskaya. Simone Young was supposed to conduct the revival performances.

The company also announced that productions of “Idomeneo” and “Così fan tutte,” which were announced as revivals in the coming season will be affected.

The company will announce changes in the coming weeks.

“Idomeneo” is still supposed to be directed by Sir. David McVicar and “Così fan tutte” by Vincent Huguet.
