Berlin State Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Aida’

The Berlin State Opera has announced cast changes for its production of Verdi’s “Aida.”

The company said that for performances on Oct. 19, 22, 25, and 29, 2023, Clémentine Margaine and Ketevan Kemoklidze will take over the role of Amneris, replacing Ekaterina Semenchuk.

Margaine will perform on Oct. 19 and 29 while Kemoklidze will perform on Oct. 22 and 25.

The company also previously announced that Gabriele Viviani, who performed the opening night performance was replacing Vladislav Sulimsky in the role of Amonasro.

Margaine and Kemoklidze join the second cast which will star Maria Jose Siri, Ivan Magrì, Erwin Schrott, and Alfredo Daza. Nicola Luisotti conducts the production by Calixto Bieito.

Semenchuk and Sulimsky return to the stage on Oct. 5 for a gala at the Mariinsky Theatre. Sulimsky is set to perform in a “Tosca” production, while Semenchuk will take on a production of “Il Trovatore.”
