Berkshire Opera Festival Unveils First-Ever Resident Artists
By David SalazarBerkshire Opera Festival has announced the artists selected for its inaugural Resident Artist Program, launching in summer 2026.
The first cohort of BOF Resident Artists includes soprano Ethel Trujillo, mezzo-soprano Christina Grohowski, tenor Scott Rubén La Marca, baritone Will (June Young) Kim, and pianist Dakota Perez. The artists were selected through a national audition process from a pool of nearly 600 applicants.
During the eight-week paid residency, the Resident Artists will receive professional training with BOF artistic staff and guest faculty while participating in a range of performance opportunities in public and private settings. Activities throughout the summer include recitals, salons, and masterclasses.
The residency will build up to fully staged performances of André Grétry’s “Zémire et Azor” in late July 2026, presented as the Resident Artist production. Following these performances, the artists will remain with the festival through August to understudy and perform roles in Berkshire Opera Festival’s 2026 mainstage production of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor.”
“As BOF enters its second decade, we are delighted to announce this major new expansion of our programming,” said Artistic Director and Co-founder Brian Garman, per an official press release. “I’ve been eager to create a Resident Artist Program for several years, and I’m thrilled for it to become a reality this summer.”
The Resident Artist production of “Zémire et Azor” will be conducted by Garman and directed by Mo Zhou.
