Benjamin Bernheim, Elsa Dreisig, Pretty Yende, Francesco Demuro Headline Opéra National de Paris’ New ‘Roméo et Juliette’

The Opéra National de Paris is set to present a new production of Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” this June.

The production, which opens on June 17 and runs through July 15 at the Opéra Bastille (the first time the opera gets showcased at the theater), will be directed by Thomas Jolly.

Carlo Rizzi will conduct two different casts. The first cast will feature tenor Benjamin Bernheim alongside soprano Elsa Dreisig as the star-crossed lovers. Meanwhile, in the second cast, audiences will see Pretty Yende and Francesco Demuro as the eponymous couple. Lea Desandre (June 17 – 27) and Marina Viotti  (June 29 – July 19) will share the role of Stéphano; also alternating the role of Mercutio are Huw Montague Rendall (June 17 – 27) and Florian Sempey (June 29 – July 19).

Other cast members include Sylvie Brunet, Maciej Kwasnikowski, Thomas Ricart, Sergio Villegas Galvain, Yiorgo Ioannou, Laurent Naouri, Jean Teitgen, and Jérôme Boutillier.

The June 26, 2023 performance will be broadcast live on France Télévisions and at UGC and independent cinemas. The July 8 performance will get a live broadcast on France Musique.
