By David Salazar

Famed baritone Benjamin Appl is set to present a masterclass at the Riga Jurmala Academy on Jan. 27, 2021.

Appl will work alongside students of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Latvia.

The showcase, which kicks off at 3 p.m. UTC, will be free to view for audiences around the work via the company’s Facebook page. After the broadcast, audiences will be able to check it out on demand via the company’s official website.

This is the latest in a long-running series of masterclasses that kicked off in December 2020 and will continue on into June 2021. The company is set to present masterclasses with double bassist Dominic Seldis, cellist Gregor Horsch and flautist Emily Beynon between January and March with additional masterclasses headlined by Alice Coote, Yefim Bronfman, and Yoav Levanon set for March and April.

“I strongly believe that every festival should always aim to educate as well as entertain. For young artists, who will hopefully be performing on our festival stages in the future, masterclasses led by outstanding seasoned artists is an incredible opportunity. I am convinced that the Riga Jurmala Academy is just the beginning of a parallel chapter to the amazing adventure we began in 2019,” said Martin Engstroem, Artistic Director of the Festival, in a press release.
